Join the Cornell Club of Switzerland for a unique cultural experience in Basel on Saturday, 23 August 2025. We will explore the vibrant world of urban art through a guided city tour hosted by Artstübli, a leading hub for street art in Switzerland.
About the tour
There are folks who believe that Basel is the most important city in Switzerland when it comes to art. Not all of them are from Basel, nor are they all from Switzerland. The Kunstmuseum belongs to the top collections in the world and the annual edition of Art Basel is the planet’s premier marketplace for works of art.
Not all the art in Basel is housed within its numerous museums and galleries. Indeed, there is a remarkable amount of art to be seen in public spaces. Most of us walk through town barely noticing or thinking about this urban art. It is hidden in plain view.
The Cornell Club has engaged the Artstübli to take us on a tour of this often unremarked outdoor museum.
The Artstübli has been organizing authentic urban art and graffiti tours, accompanied by artists and cognoscenti of the scene, for 10 years. The tour concept is to present the city as an open-air gallery, where artists have used their talents to claim a highly constrained territory.
Our guide will lead us through the city. We will encounter a variety of techniques and styles ranging from street art to graffiti art, created by various Swiss and international artists. The focus will be on a broad spectrum of outstanding independent styles and working techniques from a wide range of art movements and personalities who, depending on the location, take up the cultural and site-specific context to effectively stage their work.
Following the tour, we will gather for an aperitif on the terrace of Ufer7, a stylish spot on the Rhein near the tour’s end point. It is a great opportunity to enjoy drinks, light bites, and conversation with fellow Cornellians in a relaxed summer setting.

• The tour will take place rain or shine.
• It is a walking tour and is expected to last 90 minutes and cover a fair distance. It is not suitable for persons who would have trouble keeping up.
• This event is open to all, active members and others who wish to join.
• The aperitif can be booked separately from the tour for those who would like to join the group but cannot make the tour.
