12th Mountain Weekend: A Perfect Alpine Escape in Pontresina

4-5 July 2026 – Pontresina

The Cornell Club of Switzerland was delighted to return to the magnificent Grand Hotel Kronenhof in Pontresina for our 12th Mountain Weekend, held on 4–5 July 2026. Once again, the weekend brought together Cornellians and their families for two unforgettable days of friendship, relaxation, and alpine adventure in the heart of the Engadin.

One of the highlights of this year’s gathering was its truly multigenerational character. Alumni spanning nearly five decades of Cornell history enjoyed the weekend alongside children, teenagers and young adults, perhaps even some future Cornell students. It was wonderful to see so many generations connecting through their shared Cornell spirit while creating new memories together.

The festivities began with an elegant champagne apéritif graciously hosted in the private residence of Claudio Laager and his partner, an exclusive and memorable setting that made guests feel especially welcome. The evening continued with a gourmet dinner in the hotel’s beautiful Blue Room, tastefully decorated in Cornell’s iconic red and white colors, creating a warm and festive atmosphere befitting our alma mater.

The weather could not have been better. While much of Europe experienced a summer heat wave, the cool mountain air of the Engadin provided the perfect escape. Throughout the weekend, participants explored the region in many different ways. Some embarked on scenic hikes through the spectacular alpine landscape, while others enjoyed the area’s excellent network of cable cars, chairlifts, funiculars, and mountain railways, all offering breathtaking panoramic views.

The Grand Hotel Kronenhof’s renowned wellness facilities were equally popular. Many guests took the opportunity to unwind in the luxurious spa, indulge in relaxing massages, swim in the indoor pool, or simply enjoy the jacuzzis, steam rooms, and tranquil surroundings after a day in the mountains.

As always, the Mountain Weekend was much more than a social event, it was an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, welcome new members, strengthen the Cornell community in Switzerland, and create lasting memories in one of the country’s most beautiful settings.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Claudio Laager, General Manager of the Grand Hotel Kronenhof, and his outstanding team for their exceptional hospitality. A special thank you goes to Peter Klose, Event Manager, whose meticulous planning ensured that every detail was perfectly executed. We are also deeply grateful to our Club President, Dr. Christophe Zimmerli, for his dedication and countless hours of work in organizing yet another outstanding Mountain Weekend.

We thank everyone who joined us and helped make this another beautiful, enjoyable, and memorable Mountain Weekend. We already look forward to welcoming you back next year for the 13th Cornell Club of Switzerland Mountain Weekend!
